Shutdown Countdown: One Week
A week from today is the deadline for Congress to avoid a potentially catastrophic government shutdown, and there’s still a long way to go with lots of obstacles. A Continuing Resolution (CR) is needed to keep the government functioning, and right now there are three different versions which are all DOA unless things change, which sometimes they do right at the last minute.
The good news is that all four Agriculture Committee leaders have called for an extension of the Farm Bill to be included in any CR or, if that doesn’t happen, other legislation it could be attached to. Once again, there are some issues to be resolved, but these folks—Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Sen. John Boozman (R-AR), Rep. G.T. Thompson (R-PA), and Rep. David Scott (D-GA)—are all committed to protecting the agricultural industry. It’s refreshing to have bipartisan agreement.
Reminder: If you need label approvals, submit them now, just in case there’s a shutdown and TTB closes.
