Social media has become a vital form of marketing and advertising for wineries. Technology is changing rapidly while some laws and regulations have not caught up. Here are the rules Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) has put in place for social media and internet advertising.
The advertisement of beverage alcohol is regulated by the Market Compliance Office of the Alcohol and the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), a division of the Treasury Department.
The TTB reviews advertisements that appear in media. This includes print, television, radio, outdoor signage, and websites. The TTB is now reviewing social media sites, including, Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Instagram, YouTube, etc.
All advertising MUST comply with regulatory requirements.
